NGOs call for an immediate cessation of hostilities and full humanitarian access in Yemen. 12/04/17

Several NGOs operating in Yemen are calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities across Yemen, including in Sanaa. The NGOs are asking parties to the conflict to allow full and unfettered humanitarian access to people in need and to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid.

Somaliland elections: enforcing the right to vote for people with disabilities 12/04/17

On 13 November, voters in Somaliland elected their new president. Over a period of more than two years, Handicap International (HI) encouraged people with disabilities to participate in the electoral system. This inclusive elections initiative was implemented in six of the country’s regions and benefited some 300,000 people with disabilities.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities: Celebrating rehabilitation in Haiti 11/30/17

Handicap International (HI) organized several events in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on 3rd December as part of its efforts to engage the authorities on rehabilitation issues. These events included a photo exhibition and a concert by the singer B.I.C. - a star in Haiti and the organization’s ambassador.

HI working with Unicef to ensure people with disabilities are not left behind 11/30/17

Handicap International (HI) works in several countries to enhance the inclusion of people with disabilities and vulnerable individuals in humanitarian assistance. Its action includes awareness-raising, training, the audit of inclusive humanitarian action and support to implement it. In Lebanon, at the request of Unicef, HI is providing assistance to its partners to enhance the inclusion of people with disabilities in all hygiene and sanitation projects targeted at Syrian refugees.

African States against the use of explosive weapons in populated areas 11/24/17

From 27th to 28th November, Handicap International (HI) is organizing a regional conference on the bombing of civilians. The Conference will take place in Maputo, Mozambique and aims to bring together some 20 States, 10 African civil society organizations and international NGOs. The goal is to raise awareness of this vital challenge among African countries and to encourage them to take action on the world stage to protect civilians from the devastating impact of the use of explosive weapons in populated areas.
