Statement: Airstrikes on refugee camp in Jenin
July 4, 2023
July 4, 2023
According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, hundreds of people have already fled. Inhabited structures in the Jenin camp and in the surrounding neighborhoods were significantly damaged, OCHA reports.
“We strongly condemn these airstrikes. The camp covers an area of less than a quarter of a square mile and is adjacent to the city of Jenin, with approximately 17,000 residents. An international agreement was reached last year to drastically limit bombing and shelling in populated areas, which was signed by 83 states. Worldwide, 9 out of 10 victims of bombing and shelling in populated areas are civilians. These unacceptable practices always have indiscriminate consequences for the population." —Danila Zizi, Humanity & Inclusion's Country Director for Palestine
