Once Again, HI Mourns the Tragic Death of One of its Colleagues in Gaza

November 05, 2024

HI mourns the death of our colleague Sabreen and three of her children on November 2 in Jabalia, where she was visiting her family.

Their building was bombed by the Israeli Defense Forces and collapsed on top of them. Two other children were with her, one of whom was injured. The bodies of Sabreen, her three children, and her family are now under the rubble.

A mother of seven, Sabreen worked in Gaza City for HI as a community-based physical rehabilitation worker.

Our deepest condolences go out to her husband, her surviving children, and all her loved ones. Sabreen is our third colleague in Gaza to lose their life with their family since October 7, 2023. Her sudden death is a significant loss for our team.

At this time of profound sadness, our thoughts are with our colleagues in Gaza, who are continuing their work unabated amidst the multiple displacements and bombardments.

For 13 months, HI has tirelessly denounced how civilians suffer as a result of military action, with loss of life and the destruction of homes, hospitals, schools, and essential infrastructure. This must stop.

HI continues to call for a permanent and immediate ceasefire. Every minute without a ceasefire prolongs the unnecessary suffering of the people of Gaza and makes the need to end the trauma of war more urgent.
