HI Morocco's Approach to Making Companies Inclusive Shortlisted by the ‘Zero Project’

August 26, 2024

The “Zero Project” is a global network of more than 10,000 experts, policymakers, and companies working to advance the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). Each year, the “Zero Project” rewards inclusive solutions of interest that can be replicated or scaled up.

Humanity & Inclusion has passed the first selection phase (160 solutions selected from 522 applications).

The Morocco program's application highlighted HI's technical support approach to making companies inclusive and facilitating access to decent employment for people with disabilities (notably as part of the "Employment and Disability" project).

HI Morocco has supported over 20 companies (Axa, Cap Gemini, Label'Vie - Carrefour, Orange, etc.) in the past five years. Documented best practices include:

  • Welbhep has set up a talent day called "Osmose,” which brings together companies and job seekers with disabilities around fun activities (soccer, cooking workshop, yoga session, etc.).
  • A CV workshop enables job seekers with disabilities to submit CVs to companies. The day helps participants meet each other on an interpersonal level and helps employers change their perspectives on disability.
  • Axa organized a job fair for job seekers with disabilities to meet its recruitment needs. The company has also created a space for employees with children with disabilities to express their views and receive advice.

In all, 104 people with disabilities have found decent jobs in various positions: customer advisor, developer, IT maintenance, logistician, cashier, human resources, accounting and finance, etc. The average salary is between 328 euros and 1,500 euros (for certain IT positions) per month, considering that the minimum wage in Morocco is 253 euros per month.

The “Zero Project” acknowledged the quality of HI’s work: “Your peers, who share the same passion and vision for creating a more inclusive world, have acknowledged the profound impact your projects have had and continue to have.”
