On March 28, a catastrophic 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar. It is the strongest and most devastating earthquake that has been recorded in the country for years. More than 4,000 lives have been lost, and thousands more are injured. Hospitals are overwhelmed, and critical infrastructure has been destroyed. Despite the challenges, Humanity & Inclusion's teams are already on the ground.
HI has been responding to disasters like this one for over 40 years. We know they often strike without warning and almost always disproportionately affect people with disabilities. Our emergency teams are prepared to provide the most important and immediate needs, including:
- shelter and hygiene kits for those who have lost their homes
- rehabilitation care for those with injuries and amputations
- psychological first aid for those enduring the severe trauma of a life-altering disaster.
